Warrior Wolves
Long ago, before the Age of Man when spear clashed with fang, the Great Lands were wild and untamed. Wolves were drawn into the vast lands, by the tall mountains that touch the sky and the silver river that shimmers in the sunlight and and the thick, shadowy pine forest. The place was beautiful - but every wolf seemed to think that. Packs upon packs of wolves claimed the area or areas in it, and soon there was not enough prey and land to go around. Disputes over these things arose, and when teeth were bared, there was no hope. Jaws closed around throats, and the once-beauitful land was soaked with the blood of wolves.
Lives were lost. Slowly the packs saw that they were doing more harm than good - they just managed to protect their terrtory, but how many wolves in their pack had died for it? And when their pups were caught up and killed in a massive battle, they realised that something had to be done.
One full moon all the packs in the Great Lands met up and discussed, without baring teeth, what they could do to stop this lawless time. A few suggestions arose, but none prevailed. And then one was barked that the wolves took notice of - what if they joined together?
It would mean more mouths to feed than their average eight-wolf pack, but it would be worth it. They would be stronger and be able to fend off attackers easily; their territory would be large because they wouldn't have to share it, and prey would be easier to catch with more wolves hunting. After discussing, most wolves seemed to like this idea. They decided to join together - but there was one thing left to decide.
Who would be the Leader Male and Female?
Six wolves, valiant leaders of packs, stepped forwards. One pair, whom had previously lived in the mountains, claimed that, with their endurance against the cold mountain snows, they would lead the pack best. Another pair stepped forwards, whom had lived by the river and fed on fish, and stated that they were faster than any wolf that has challenged them; they would be swift and decisive for their pack. And the last pair, whom had lived in the forest, said that they had never been beaten in a challenge, and their strength alone would serve their pack well. Wolves bickered, but eventually came to a conclusion.
They would live in three seperate packs - the land was big enough for that, after all. Wolves with stamina would join the mountain pair, wolves with speed would join the river pair, and wolves with strength would join the forest pair. Eventually they became Mountain Pack, River Pack and Forest Pack; the three packs fought, of course, but it was nowhere near as violent and dangerous as the previous battles, and every wolf lived in peace. Their descendants lived, and - well, descended, until this very day...
